The Unsung Heroes Behind

This is where our local Unsung Heroes come in. They are the ones who devote all of their time and effort in conserving these endangered species. They are the parents/guardians to these wonderful animals; nurturing them, feeding them, protecting them, helping them to adapt back to the wild etc. Clink on the links below to know more about how they dedicate their lives towards the protection of these endangered species.

Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia

Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) was founded out of necessity in 2011 because co-founders Drs. Chan Eng Heng and Dr. Chen Pelf Nyok realized that there wasn’t an organization or agency in charge of the tortoises and freshwater turtles in the country, despite being home to 18 species of native species.

TCS is the first non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater turtles in Malaysia. The aim of the Society is to bring about the recovery of depleted wild populations of turtles, with particular reference to freshwater turtles, in Malaysia through partnerships with like-minded organizations, individuals and local communities as well as through its own programmes.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC)

The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is the only sun bear conservation centre in the world. It was founded in Sabah, Malaysia in 2008 with two aims:

  • To provide care and rehabilitation to rescued sun bears; and
  • To increase awareness of sun bears internationally.

These aims work to ensure the absolute right of every bear to live in the forest.
